A Young buck, White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus), was at the bird feeder in front of our house in Norman, Oklahoma, United States just before sunset on June 25, 2021. That makes good lighting with the sun on his face and shadow behind. Since the camera is able to see less into shadow than a human eye, de-emphasizing the shadows slightly in the raw development software makes the background completely disappear in the photo.

This young buck thinks he owns the place. In the evening, I went out on the front porch and sat in a chair with my camera. Young buck looks at me for a while and then proceeds to eat the rest of the bird seed before walking away. The next morning he was standing next to my vegetable garden, so I step out the back door to warn him off. He stares at me for a while, then steps toward me and stomps his foot. He repeats this about 20 times. Since I am not so easily frightened away, eventually he browses on some bushes and slowly walks away. It ends in a truce instead of me being charged and hit with velvet antlers.
